An exhausting morning ........

...... in more ways than one.  Ash's truck was booked into the garage following a recall on his type of vehicle for air bag issues and it meant being in our local town 10 miles away by 8am this morning.  In any normal life this wouldn't be a problem but for us it meant setting the alarm, taking the dog out further and much earlier than usual, having breakfast while we were out, me taking my car and Ash following in the truck, all things which were different to normal which in turn meant we were both awake at 5am, him worrying about the fact that there was something different happening today even if he didn't know what and me checking and double checking that I'd covered every eventuality.  So I was exhausted before we even set off but then there are my current clothing issues to add into the mix.  You may remember that we have no heating which means I'm wearing so many layers I look like the Michelin man (I even ate my breakfast in my coat this morning) and I've had to fish out all the clothes I wore when I was much bigger just so that I can fit the thermals underneath!  All of those layers mean I'm (mostly) warm but it also means that if I go anywhere with heating I'm very hot so what to do and especially this morning?  Should I put the layers on under the larger sized clothes when I get up, wear them for an hour then take them off and put smaller sized clothes on before I go out?  Should I try it with just the thermal top on and hope I'm warm enough? Should I wear the really warm coat that I can get the layers under or my walking coat?  So many options and so many decisions to make which, being a Libran, I find difficult at the best of times never mind when I have the truck to consider as well.  In the end I ran out of time so the decisions were taken out of my hands and I went along in full layer mode which would have been ok except that we left the truck in the capable hands of the mechanic and went shopping.  I am now here to tell you that spending an hour in a supermarket dressed in thermal underwear, trousers and three tops (one of them thermal too) plus a fleece jacket is a very warm experience indeed.  In fact I'm sure at one point steam was escaping from the sleeves of my jacket and people began giving me a wide berth.  Anyway I survived, the shopping was completed, we collected the truck and made our way home.  Now this afternoon the conundrum is to be repeated.  I'm off to a friends for a cup of tea and, as she has heating, the question is once again should I remove all the layers and change clothes or go as I am and run the risk of overheating?  Still trying to decide.

do you not have any electric fan heaters at home? Expensive to run but good to warm up one room that you are in at the time. And better than being a Michelin Man!

keep warm!

At the beginning of the week a friend offered us the use of some electric heaters but when the sun's out the house is warm during the day and then we had the log fire at night so were ok. then the sun went in, the frost came out to play and the house got colder each day but I was still in the mindset of 'we can do this' and I didn't even give heaters a thought. You've reminded me this morning and I've been and brought one in from the shed. Am now typing this while toasty warm in my 'sanctuary' so thank you for reminding me that stoicism isn't the only way forward.
