Some of the best things in life ........

My new bedding arrived today and it's already been in the machine and is now installed on the bed along with the new pillow.  That last was an added bonus because it wasn't due for another few days but it now sits full and plump at the top of the bed just waiting for me to lay my head on it.  Last night once again Ash suggested I slept in the spare room but, as I suspected, the second time was nowhere near as difficult to deal with as the first and I had a much better night's sleep.  The best bit was being able to read for as long as I wanted but now I have something new to add to the prospective delights of sleeping alone as Carol has said she enjoys being able to go to bed later if she wants to and that just hadn't occurred to me.  At the moment Ash makes a move as soon as the news comes on (10pm) and, whether I want to or not, regardless of what I'm in the middle of watching on my laptop, I start to pack up too and off we go.  Now I'm not saying that from tonight I'll be up until midnight but it does seem to mean that I may now have a choice and it's these small things that make life just that little bit easier.

It's the small things that got me thinking too of how life has changed due to dementia and how, in lots of areas, it's changed for the better.  There are days of course when I struggle to put one foot in front of the other, mornings when I really don't want to get out of bed and moments when I hate what's happening to us and I hate myself for having those thoughts but on the whole, when I stop to analyse it all, I see how many benefits have come alongside the angst and the grief.  Different days see me grateful for different things depending on my mood of course and I have to tell you that today it's been the turn of the treadmill.  The weather is vile here and it's rained since the minute I woke up but, with the help of the treadmill, this morning I walked in the Swiss Alps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sh81zwqGRc and this afternoon I hiked past beautiful waterfalls in Croatia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TavJrDi2BhA.  As you can imagine my adventure list is getting longer and longer as I've rarely been anywhere by treadmill that I wouldn't want to visit in person and that's a definite advantage in this new life because without the events behind the treadmill acquisition I would have no idea what I was missing.

So there are, as you can see, many ways to make the best of this dementia affected life, we just have to be determined to seek them out.  If you have ways I haven't thought of then please feel free to share them.  One of the best things about this blog I'm discovering is that other people's thoughts, ideas and suggestions are always useful to others.

Here's a really nice video on Colorado, taken by a drone. It's short, but at the end are links for other videos. Might be a nice addition to your travels. Take care ... https://tinyurl.com/y23fhxxv
